Embargo Measures
What are Embargo Measures?
Embargo measures are coercive means taken by a state to prevent trade with a particular country. As a rule, they are used as reprisal against violations of international law and to prevent the state concerned from certain actions in the future. Embargo measures are implemented on the basis of so-called embargoes, which are restrictions on foreign trade. With their help, actions and legal transactions can be restricted or prohibited with respect to certain countries, persons or groups of persons. Embargo measures are usually based on resolutions of the UN Security Council.
