ATA Carnet

What is an ATA Carnet?

An ATA carnet is an international customs document. With the ATA carnet, non-Union goods can be temporarily imported into the customs territory of the European Union.

The carnet can be used instead of national customs documents, and it serves as a security for import duties and taxes. In this regard, the temporary approval of goods and the transport of goods are covered.

The ATA carnet can also be used to control the temporary export and re-import of goods. The document is widely used and applicable in over 70 countries. ATA carnet can be referred to as ‘Merchandise Passport’ or ‘Passport for Goods.’
