BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office)

What is BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office)?

The BKA (Bundeskriminalamt) is the German Federal Criminal Police Office with a higher federal authority, which is subordinate to the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Its headquarters are in Wiesbaden, but there are also offices in Berlin and Meckenheim. Together with the Federal Police and the Police at the German Bundestag, the BKA is one of the three federal police forces.

As the central office of the German criminal police, its task is to coordinate the national fight against crime in close cooperation with the state criminal investigation departments. For this purpose, the BKA maintains central forensic and intelligence collections and facilities. As the national central office at Interpol, it also coordinates the information and intelligence services of the state and federal police forces.
